Macular degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the major causes of loss of sight linked to age, and it is found in more then 30% of over 75s. it causes a progressive degeneration of the retina with irreversible loss of sight in elder people.

AMD affects people's ability to read, recognize other people or drive, and frequently AMD progresses to total loss of sight. recent data indicate that some DNA variations in the region of the CFH gene (part of the complement system) are responsible for an increase in the risk of developing the disease.

The AMD test analyzes these variations and defines the presence of a possible predisposition. an early identification of the disease could help defining the proper therapeutical approaches.
